New Chairman for The Ice Organisation Partner and consumer momentum building, says eco-scheme
Ice, the UK loyalty programme that links consumers with environmentally friendly goods and services, has appointed Steven Esom as Chairman.
Esom, perhaps best known for transforming Waitrose’s positioning in the UK supermarket sector, has a wide range of retailing experience.
Ice said that he will help take the programme to the next stage as it “continues to attract retailers nationwide across a variety of sectors including transport (Stagecoach, Arriva and Eurostar) energy (Scottish and Southern Energy) and food and drink.”
Ice says that, in the food and drink sector, it has built up a network of more than 400 independent farm food shops and artisan food producers in six months.
Esom takes over from eco-investment champion Tessa Tennant, who remains as a non executive Board member and President, and is engaged in helping to forge relationships with strategic partners in overseas markets.
Tennant said: “We have reached a stage where Ice needs substantially more retail expertise to lead the company so it’s time to pass the baton. We are exceptionally fortunate to have attracted such a talented individual to put his weight behind Ice and help take it to the next stage. Our mission to mobilise the mass market in support of sustainable living requires nothing less than this.”
Esom was MD of Waitrose from 2002 to 2007, and previously their Buying Director for seven years. He is currently an Operating Partner at Langholm Capital, a mid-market private equity firm investing in branded consumer-facing businesses.
He commented on his appointment: “Tessa and her board colleagues have overseen the evolution of Ice into the exciting, rapidly growing company it is today, with its success underpinned by a unique proposition with broad reach and appeal, one that is particularly compelling in today’s times of austerity.”
Ice’s management team is led by CEO Jude Thorne, formerly MD of BA subsidiary AirMiles. |
