10% ‘gift’ for customers from Toys R Us
Retailer enhances rewards programme
Toys R Us is offering members of its US rewards programme 10% back in store credit on purchases made in stores and online.
It had previously offered members US$5 back for US$150 in purchases.
Members of the programme will also get access to member shopping events and are notified first when shipments of popular items arrive.
The cap is $50 in store credit for a $500 purchase.
Other US retailers have recently upgraded their rewards programme offerings in the run-up to Christmas.
Discounter Target will offer 5% off most products when shoppers use a Target card, while bookseller Borders introduced a paid option that offers more benefits than the free programme.
Unlike Target’s offer, the Toys R Us incentive does not require approval to join. Members of the its Rewards ‘R Us loyalty scheme can start making purchases under the deal beginning 31 October all the way through Christmas Eve. Coupons will be redeemed after the Christmas holidays and useable until 31 January.
The improved rewards programme offering will be the focal point of Toys ‘R Us’ holiday ad campaign, said Greg Ahearn, the company’s senior VP of marketing and e-commerce. The programme will also feature other benefits like incentives on diaper and formula, access to specialised shopping events and email alerts when ‘hot’ holiday toys become available.
A recent consumer survey published by the US National Retail Federation showed that sales or discounts are still a key factor when shoppers are making holiday purchasing decisions. Other retailers will also focus holiday messages on savings including offers like layaway service.
