Barclays busker only accepts contactless
Contactless-enabled guitarist plays in London
Barclays has enlisted a London busker who only accepts contactless card payments as its latest marketing initiative to promote the technology.
“Contactless” Peter Buffery played to crowds in Soho Square on his specially designed guitar which has been equipped with contactless technology at the head for listeners to make a donation.
Barclays and Barclaycard handed out prepaid cards, loaded with £5, to passers-by. The money given through Beffery’s guitar is going towards the bank’s efforts to raise £2500 for Help a London Child.
Andy Harris, head, current accounts, Barclays, commented: “Today saw the UK’s first contactless busker play in London’s Soho Square and it’s been a great success. Not only in terms of how good the music’s been but it’s really demonstrated that there is an easier and quicker way for people to make everyday purchases. If a busker can go contactless then anyone can!”
