Delta Airlines forms card partnership with payment network
Co-branded debit card to offer “hundreds” of merchant discounts
Delta Airlines has partnered with payment network MasterCard to offer co-branded Delta SkyMiles Debit MasterCard cards.
Atlanta-based Delta says the cards will give its customers a chance to earn Delta miles on qualifying purchases. It also will give them access to hundreds of merchant-funded discounts, the US airline added.
The Delta SkyMiles Debit MasterCard will be available as Platinum Debit MasterCard, World Debit MasterCard or Debit MasterCard BusinessCard card products.
The companies says they will work togetherover the next several months to build a national network of financial institutions to offer the Delta SkyMiles Debit MasterCard cards to current and prospective Delta customers through local bank branches in the United States.
The Delta SkyMiles program, started in 1981, offers members multiple mileage-earning opportunities when flying Delta, Delta Shuttle, Delta Connection carriers, Delta Private Jets and other SkyTeam airlines. It has over 140 worldwide partners, and members can earn miles through participating hotels, car rental companies, restaurants, SkyMilesShopping.com, SkyMilesDining.com, floral and gift retailers, financial and realty services, and more.
Last year, frequent flyers redeemed more than 230 billion miles in the SkyMiles program for more than 11 million award redemptions.
