Emirates partners with Amex
Earn and redeem offer for frequent flyers
UAE-based Emirates has partnered with American Express to enable members of its Emirates Skywards frequent flyer scheme to earn and redeem points for travel with expenditure on their Amex cards.
Cardholders who are signed up to Amex’s Membership Rewards scheme who are also members of Skywards can transfer points into the programme and redeem Skywards Miles for travel on the airline.
Josh Silverman, president of consumer services at American Express, commented: “Bringing Emirates Skywards into the Membership Rewards programme opens up new pathways to the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe for our global Card Members.”
To mark the partnership the two companies a limited time transfer bonus. Cardholders in the US, UK and France who transfer points to Emirates Skywards between November 8 and 21 will receive a 25% bonus.
“The relationship with American Express is a new milestone enabling us to offer the exceptional experience of flying with Emirates to Card Members,” said Thierry Antinori, executive VP and chief commercial officer at Emirates Airlines. “We can reach American Express’ loyal Card Member base and allow them to enjoy the exclusive privileges of a rewarding frequent flyer program.”
The Emirates Skywards programme enables members to earn and spend miles for air travel and upgrades on the Emirates network, with partner airlines, as well as with select hotels, car rental and retail partners. In addition to flights and upgrades, Skywards Miles can also be redeemed for tickets to soccer games, including New York Cosmos or for the Americas Cup. Skywards Miles are valid for three years and can be redeemed at any time to book award travel on Emirates flights without blackout dates.
Emirates joins 16 other airlines in Amex’s Membership Rewards programme including Delta, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways, who all allow eligible card members to transfer Membership Rewards points to redeem award flights and upgrades.
