First rewards scheme for Xbox Live
Microsoft has launched the Xbox Live Rewards program – the first rewards scheme for users of the popular games console.
The scheme is free to Xbox Live members in the US and UK, and also connected directly to the new My Rewards website. It offers redeemable Microsoft Points for Live customers that show their loyalty via online purchases, subscription renewals and survey completions.
For example, users who renew their 12-month Xbox Live Gold accounts will get 200 Microsoft Points, which can be spent online, while a user’s first Live purchase will get them 100 Microsoft Points.
There have already been some criticisms of the scheme. Some rewards are only available to Xbox Live Gold account holders, and the rewards scheme does not reward Live activity retroactively, and receiving Microsoft Points can take up to 30 days.
Microsoft conducted a pilot rewards scheme for Xbox Live users in November 2009.
