Gconomy card rewards environmental actions
Recycling rewards programme RecycleBank is introducing a payment card that gives rewards for environmentally friendly behaviour.
“Gconomy” is a newly coined term for the economy that rewards consumers for positive green actions.
The new Gconomy Visa Card rewards communities by encouraging local economic stimulation while supporting environmental education for children across the US. The Gconomy Visa Card is issued by Barclaycard US, the payments business of Barclays in the United States.
With The Gconomy Visa Card, Cardmembers earn 1.5 RecycleBank Points for every dollar spent with participating local and national RecycleBank Reward Partners and one Point for every dollar spent on all other purchases. A portion of every purchase made on the Card will be donated to the RecycleBank Green Schools Program, helping local school children and teachers fund their environmental initiatives while building awareness of our impact on the planet. RecycleBank has committed to donating a minimum of $1 million dollars over the next five years to the RecycleBank Green Schools Program via The Gconomy Visa Card.
Morley Ivers, chief rewards officer of RecycleBank, commented : “We even produced this card from 55% recycled plastic to reinforce the importance of saving our precious resources.”
The programme aims to motivate households to recycle by measuring the amount of recycled material from the home and converting it into points that can be redeemed for rewards including gift cards, entertainment, groceries, travel, and products.
RecycleBank has thousands of Reward Partners, including national brands and retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, CVS/pharmacy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Ruby Tuesday along with participating local merchants in hundreds of cities across 22 US states and in the UK.
