Hotel points race speeds up with Wyndham upgrading everyone

Members can request a one-level membership bump

Travellers who visit WyndhamRewards.com/Upgrade  in the next few weeks can request their one-level membership bump, unlocking perks such as early check-in, late checkout, a preferred room, even suite upgrades. But the perk only lasts until the end of 2025.

Upgraded Status for All 

With four distinct levels of membership – Blue, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond – Wyndham Rewards claims to offer some of the most attainable status in the industry, with each level designed to recognise members with added perks. But it is not unreasonable to suggest that this latest complimentary limited-time upgrade smacks just a little of panic.

Within the last few months, almost all of the big hotel chains have revamped their loyalty programs to to differentiate themselves and offer more attractive rewards. Only recently Hilton has slashed the number of nights needed for Gold status to 25 from 40, a 38% cut that puts perks like room upgrades and breakfast credits within reach of more casual business travelers. Diamond status drops to 50 nights from 60.

 Justifying the move at Wyndham, Mike Shiwdwin, GVP, Loyalty and Guest Engagement, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts said: “We all know what travel looks like this time of year—crowded airports, packed cars and family gatherings that always seem to grow by a few unexpected guests. Wyndham is here to help. Whether it’s one night at a Days Inn, a long weekend at a La Quinta, or an all-out, well-deserved splurge at a beautiful Wyndham Grand, this upgrade is our way of reminding travellers that with Wyndham Rewards, every stay shines a little brighter.”

Wyndham Rewards holiday upgrade offer is available to all Blue, Gold and Platinum Wyndham Rewards members globally. Those not yet enrolled in the programme can join for free at WyndhamRewards.com and then claim their upgrade.

Once claimed, Blue members will automatically be upgraded to Gold, Gold members to Platinum, and Platinum members to Diamond. Upgraded perks and benefits take effect immediately—except for Caesars Rewards status match benefits, which are excluded from the offer. 

The sad part is that the tier bump only applies to stays completed by December 31, so not that much of an offer. Perhaps they will be more creative next year.
