Network launches Facebook World Cup match planner
Social media extension aims to enhance football fans’ tournament experience
Card Network Visa Inc has launched Match Planner, a social media application where users can create customizable FIFA World Cup viewing schedules to share with friends via social networking channels such as Facebook.
Visa is one of six FIFA partners for the 2010 World Cup and the exclusive card of the tournament, which starts in South Africa on June 11.
The Match Planner website at http://www.visagofans.com is the latest extension of Visa’s global FIFA-themed marketing campaign Go Fans.
The Match Planner will be available in English, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese, and will be customized for each of the 32 qualified countries. In addition to building a customized World Cup match viewing schedule, the application also lets users organize match viewing parties, chat with friends, track scores and standings, and obtain exclusive offers from merchants such as the official store on FIFA.com.
Antonio Lucio, chief marketing officer for Visa Inc, commented: “Through dynamic social media extensions of the Go Fans campaign, like the Match Planner, Visa is able to strengthen our connection to the FIFA World Cup and enhance every fan’s World Cup experience with engaging content.”
Visa debuted the Go Fans campaign in Latin America in 2009 and launched it globally in February 2010. The networks says that over 90 countries are now activating Visa FIFA-themed marketing programs with more than 500 financial institutions and merchants via advertising, customized promotions and the development of marketing collateral (POS, signage and direct mail).
