NFL starts credit card programme
US football partnership with bank
Fans of the US National Football League are being targeted with the new NFL Extra Points credit card issued by Barclaycard US.
The newly launched cards showcase each team’s logo and colors, and cardholders will be able to earn points for a loyalty program created for each team that can be redeemed for team experiences, game day tickets, memorabilia and all the NFL-licensed gear a real fan needs. Cardholders will earn NFL Extra Points every time they use the card and will receive a 20% discount for purchases on NFLShop.com on the card.
“The card represents a great way for fans to show their loyalty to their team while being rewarded simply for using the product – all the while benefiting from the seamless service of Barclaycard,” said Keith Turner, the NFL’s senior VP of media sales & sponsorship.
In an exclusive, multi-year agreement with the National Football League, Barclaycard will issue credit cards bearing the logos of each of the 32 NFL clubs and the NFL shield logo. Fans can apply for the card via NFL.com, at stadium displays, through in-bound telephone applications and via email and direct mail invitations.
Visa is the NFL’s official payment card sponsor.
“We’ve worked closely with the NFL to create a brand new credit card program with a collection of benefits and rewards that will appeal to the many fans of this thrilling game,” said Scott Young, general manager-partnerships, Barclaycard US. “With all the exciting new NFL Extra Points redemption choices, cardholders will have plenty of reasons to use the card and keep their team spirit alive all year long.”
To mark the launch, Barclaycard and the NFL are starting a multi-media campaign that includes a personalized and team branded website where fans can learn about product benefits, win authentic NFL prizes, watch NFL videos, play interactive games, test their trivia skills and download team wallpaper and a digital widget.
