PayPal is France’s second most popular online payment after Visa
PayPal now ranks second in the top of the most popular online payment systems in France, following Visa, according to French technology website ITespresso.fr
In 2008, the volume of payments via PayPal reached Eur1bn on the French market alone (the figure is Eur41bn in the world). The number of PayPal account holders has reached 8 million in France, with 30 percent of them active (having made at least one transaction in 2008
France ranks as third European country in terms of the number of PayPal accounts, after the UK (21 million) and Germany (10 million). Germany is growing fast as a Paypal market. It had only 5 million users in February 2007). Around one third of the 31 million online shoppers in Germany use of PayPal for online purchases.
Altogether in Europe there are 52 million PayPal account holders.
PayPal currently has 175 million users in 190 markets and eBay expects that its online payment business will almost double globally by 2011.
