Scheme also linked to local merchants
Metro Transit is launching a loyalty programme for public transit riders in Minneapolis and St. Paul, beginning in March 2010.
The programme, which is free to join, rewards members’ use of public transit, as well as their spending with local businesses. Members automatically earn reward points for every ride they take with Metro Transit—their spending with local merchant partners is also rewarded with additional points. Points are redeemable for transit fare credit and gift cards.
The program’s primary goal is to drive more business to the local merchants that compose the company’s Merchant Network. The company will help those businesses with customer acquisition, customer retention, targeted marketing communications, and differentiating themselves from their competition.
