Tesco to relaunch points initiative
More rewards but shorter timespan
Tesco is relaunching its offer of double points on Clubcard purchases.
Holders of the loyalty card can double the value of their rewards to spend on some non-food items at the UK supermarket.
Customers will shortly receive their latest Clubcard vouchers in the post, which they can take to store to exchange for double the value.
Branded the Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange, for every £5 in Clubcard vouchers, customers can opt to exchange them for a £10 rewards token to spend on a range of products – including clothes, toys and DIY items – up to September 5.
Tesco ran a similar offer in May 2009 to combat strong competition in the UK supermarket sector.
The latest offer is bigger than the one last year, being a five-week promotion which the supermarket said will see its 16 million cardholders receive £140m in rewards. Tesco’s mailing last August was worth £101m.
However the offer has a shorter lifespan that last year with vouchers having to be obtained and spent within the five week offer period.
Commenting on the new campaign, Carolyn Bradley, Tesco’s Marketing Director said: “This promotion is a real summer-saving bonanza for our Clubcard members and our way of saying thank you to our loyal customers. Thanks to double points, customers are earning points twice as fast and getting more vouchers in their statements. The Big Clubcard Voucher Exchange gives people a fun and exciting way to spend their vouchers and make great savings just by doing their normal shop”.
Customers with vouchers left over from previous statements can use these in the promotion.
Vouchers can also be used in the standard way in-store or online, so members can still use them to pay for their weekly shopping or other items not included in the offer.
