Two million Facebook fans vote for pink Coke bottle
Worldwide response to cancer initiative in ten days
A suggestion to Coca-Cola on its Facebook page that it should launch a pink bottle and give back 30% of the profits to breast cancer research has reached more than 2 million “likes”.
John Cardinal, a teenager from California, made the proposal on October 6, saying: “Coca cola, I have a proposal. You have 9million followers if I can get 2million likse, you have to change one of the colors on your cans to pink. And you have to donate 30% of the profits to research for the cure of breast cancer.”
Coca-Cola has not yet reacted to the proposal, but the response in just ten days shows how rapidly a social media campaign can gather momentum.
However, creative agency Creads – spotting a social media-related commercial opportunity – has started a worldwide contest in support John Cardinal’s action. Facebook users from all over the word can take part in the “Pink My Cola” initiative and design their own pink bottle at the PinkMyCola.com website.
