Virgin Atlantic starts Clubcard partnership
“Automatic opt-in” agreement
Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club programme has launched a partnership with the Tesco Clubcard scheme.
The partnership will involve an automatic “opt-in” that will enable Flying Club members to earn miles when shopping at the UK retailer. The Clubcard points will then automatically be converted into Flying Club Miles.
The airline says that, using the average household spend on groceries and fuel, most members will be able to earn over 20,000 Flying Club miles per year by exchanging Clubcard vouchers for Flying Club Miles.
For every £1 they spend in a Tesco Store will earn two and a half Flying Club miles.
Flying Club members who choose the automatic opt-in before 29 February 2012 will receive 1,000 bonus miles.
Flying Club members can redeem their collected miles for rewards including flights to Virgin Atlantic destinations, cabin upgrades to Premium Economy and Upper Class, and access to reduced fares with Miles Plus Money.
They can also be spent with the scheme’s hotel, airline or car rental partners.
