Wells Fargo taps Twitter
US banks are exploring the potential of social network sites to enhance customer loyalty and many have succumbed to the appeal of Twitter.
Wells Fargo is the latest bank to launch a Twitter feed, where customers can ask questions and seek advice.
The Ask Wells Fargo feed will be manned by “Joel” who currently says the bank is “testing this Twitter channel to learn how to best service our customers”.
To begin with the feed will only cover “basic banking needs” and is unlikely to excite a massive following.
The banks has dabbled before with Twitter, setting up a channel nearly two years ago but posted only four tweets. In contrast, Wachovia, which was acquired by Wells Fargo in December, has been using the site to communicate with customers since last August and now has over 2400 followers. In January Bank of America launched a feed to provide advice and help to customers and now has over 1500 followers.
Some people just don’t have enough to do.
