Yahoo! Canada partners with Air Miles
Yahoo! Canada has signed a partnership with Air Miles to reward the loyalty programme’s members for their internet searches. The agreement, which also involves US web tools developer FreeCause, will see an Air Miles toolbar introduced at airmiles.ca. The toolbar is a free internet browser download that allows Canadians to earn free reward miles by doing everyday searches.
Yahoo! Canada says the partnership will help it gain market share in the competitive search engine and online advertising industry.
“This is a great opportunity to partner with a loyalty programme to offer reward miles to Canadians, and we believe this will help Yahoo! Canada to continue to be a force in the highly competitive search business,” said director of network optimization, Gina Cothey, Yahoo! Canada.
Air Miesl says the partnership will make it the only Canadian national coalition loyalty program that gives free reward miles for searching the internet.
Neil Everett, chief marketing officer for Air Miles said: “This agreement has the potential to re-shape online consumer behaviour through one simple download.”
Air Miles collectors can use the toolbar to earn five free reward miles for every 50 searches (to a maximum of 360 reward miles per year). The download also displays account balances and ensures collectors earn reward miles when shopping at the more than 100 online sponsors at airmilesshops.ca.
Yahoo!says its sites were visited by more than 16 million Canadians in December last year (comScore Media Metrix).
Founded in 1992, Air Miles’ Canadian operation has more than 9.5 million active collector accounts, representing approximately two-thirds of all Canadian households.
